So, today, I give honor to two extraordinarily talented people who teach by being and, in the process, enrich my life. As a loner, my careers have suited my personality: prison workshop facilitator, teacher, church mover and shaker, and finally, writer - a boss, calling the shots.īut no longer as now my days are filled with jibber-jabbers, unscheduled days (and weeks!) off, and two people who could care less that I am impatient, have artificial deadlines, and tend to ignore my bluntness. They work for me as subcontractors in the world of creative words, posters, and illustrations. My mind tells me this is a piece of what has been missing from childhood, those dark days of questions without answers.Įnter Karin and Daya. Now I am being taught a lesson of a different kind. Two gals, over a span of forty years, taught the meaning of “sisterhood ” and, the fellows taught how much fun, and how much one can learn about almost anything by being friends with the opposite sex. Yet, surprisingly, in spite of lack of understanding and making huge mistakes on the give and take in associations, I have had close relationships with both males and females. Irritating is “oh, it’s my birthday,” or “sorry, in-laws in town!” As a workaholic, these are totally unacceptable excuses. I look at the calendar and cringe but, I do accept this is a day off.
Worse is not even having a schedule! Taking a day off occurs on holidays. Not abiding by a work schedule is another thing that drives me up the wall.
